Cover Cropping Workshop Saturday at PSU Community Garden

(From Scott Salesky)

On Saturday, August 24, we will have the final workshop of the year at the community garden. The workshop will focus on cover crops, and will be led by Charlie White, community garden member and PSU extension agent.  There are many benefits to planting cover crops, including nutrient retention, erosion prevention, nitrogen fixing, and controlling garden pests and diseases organically; planting a cover crop is a very easy way to invest in the health of your soil. Charlie will discuss the advantages of different cover crops for specific gardening goals. The workshop will begin at 10 am.

Please also note that we may be placing a bulk order for cover crop seed later in the season, so this a good opportunity to learn the basics if you haven’t used cover crops before.  Hope to see you there!

New Spring Creek Homesteaders Yahoo Group

Jennifer Landry suggested that I create a message group for homesteaders, to help people connect with each other and share homesteading news now that I’m taking a break from blog maintenance.

Awesome idea (I thought) so here’s the Spring Creek Homesteaders Yahoo Group link.

Description: “Information-sharing and support group for Central PA homesteaders. Use it to announce events, request help with projects, offer services and anything else homesteading-related.”

It’s going to be moderated as little as possible, so hopefully there won’t be too much spam, trolling etc.
